WELCOME TO PROJECT 60
Not long ago I joined the 60 club.
People tend to say "I can't believe it, how did this happen?" And truly, strange as it may sound, for most of us this realization lands without any preparation. We prepare for a bar or bat mitzvah - so why not for turning 60?
I decided to take on a unique project:
I created a wooden surface on which I painted 60 layers.
There were stages I loved, moments I wanted to hold onto. To keep. To hang on the wall. But I kept going anyway. Because that was the idea - to let go even when you love it.
And to show everything, even when I wasn't happy with it.
That too is part of the process.

THE PROJECT
Choosing a Format
I chose wood because it gives me the most freedom. I can glue, add endless layers of paint, and also sand and remove parts.
I wanted a rectangle that works both vertically and horizontally - not too narrow, but not too square either. And I wanted it to connect conceptually to the subject.
I chose a surface of 72×90 cm (multiples of 6), in a 4:5 ratio.
Preparing the Surface
The first step was to cover the surface with torn pieces of old paper - letters and notes that are a kind of memory for me. Some good, some less so, but they are part of who I am. They became the secret base layer of the work - I will never be able to see them again. That's part of the point: to keep the memories but not cling to them. To let go.
Work Framework
Every session with the work was a stage. Two hours, one hour, or 20 minutes - a stage. I gave myself a little over 10 months. There were dry spells, weeks when I didn't touch the work. That's okay. That's part of the process.
